The Certificate of Achievement in Dietary Management provides the education and training in nutrition, foodservice, personnel and communication, sanitation and safety, and business operations which enables students to competently perform the responsibilities of a dietary manager and prepares students to take nationally recognized Certified Dietary Manager Credentialing Exam and fulfilling the requirements needed to maintain certified status. Certified Dietary Managers (CDM) are nationally recognized experts at managing foodservice operations and ensuring food safety; they are responsible for the daily operations of foodservice department, according to facility policy and procedures and federal/state regulations.

Upon completion of this program students will be able to:

✔ Participate in the operation of food service systems to assure the nutrition needs of clients are being met.
✔ Identify practices necessary to assure a safe and sanitary food service environment.

The CNC Machine Programmer certificate includes courses designed to upgrade the skills and knowledge of the machinist or the CNC machine operator to the level of the CNC machine programmer. If you are a machinist and have minimal experience with CNC machines or machine language programming, you will first want to complete the CNC Machine Operator Professional Upgrade Certificate. If you have both machining experience and CNC experience, the software used for the Machine Technology A133 and A134 courses provides excellent experiences in computer-assisted CNC programming. All of our programming courses require the use of a personal computer. If you have no computer experience, we strongly suggest you enroll in a basic computer use type course first (Computer & High Technology A100 or Computer Information Systems A100).

The CNC Machine Operator certificate enhances the skills of students who have earned the Machinist certificate by providing that student with CNC machine operating skills and manual programming skills. The courses required to earn this certificate are designed to make the machine operator capable of setting up and manually programming a CNC machine tool. The CNC Machine Operator Professional Upgrade Certificate is specifically for the returning students with on-the-job machining experience.

The Homeland Security (TSA) Certificate provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully enter the field of homeland security, specializing in employment positions overseeing security management, intelligence analysis, transportation safety and border security. The sequence of courses offered within the certificate helps develop a student’s understanding of the interrelated duties, relationships, and responsibilities impacting personnel employed to ensure U.S. national security.

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

✔ Recognize the types of hazards that can negatively impact a community and assess the variables that impact this type of hazard exposure.
✔ Distinguish some of the fundamental roles and responsibilities of the professional emergency manager established by the Emergency Management Institute.
✔ Demonstrate effective skills using well established problem-solving, communication and interpersonal techniques.

This certificate prepares students to work as a Lead Teacher in early care and education programs serving children birth-5 years, and to supervise a Teacher, Associate teacher or Assistant. This includes developing curriculum, using authentic assessment measures, managing classroom environments and working collaboratively with colleagues and families to support children’s learning. Courses fulfill Title 22 licensing requirements and Title 5 early childhood education course requirements for the Child Development Permit at the Master Teacher level. A grade of “C” or better is required in all courses.

Program Outcome

✓ Surpasses the child development requirements for the Child Development Permit at the Master Teacher level, can be employed as a Lead preschool teacher or Mentor Teacher. This certificate provides comprehensive knowledge and skills and provides enhanced employability and is an indicator of professionalism.

The Emergency Management/Homeland Security (EM/HS) program prepares students to enter the emerging profession of homeland security and disaster management. Our curriculum is designed to provide the learner with a foundation of technical and professional knowledge needed by emergency and security workers to meet local, state and national safety responsibilities, both in the public and private sectors. Our program emphasizes an All-Hazard approach to emergency planning and security management, with courses in preparedness planning, risk mitigation, emergency response, and disaster recovery. In addition, we offer homeland security course content in terrorism studies, information security, and critical infrastructure resiliency, consistent with the National Response Framework.

This certificate is designed to address the teacher shortage of qualified Career Education instructors in the community college and to involve an untapped resource: career professionals who would like to acquire the skills to enable them to teach their career. The certificate represents a response to Strong Work Force recommendations, focusing on increasing Increase the pool of qualified Career Education instructors, based on the conclusion that there is an urgent need for Career Education programs to have more flexibility in hiring industry experts by expanding equivalency processes and definitions.

Developed for future community college Career Education instructors who may not meet the existing college hiring standard but possess significant industry experience, this pathway to classroom teaching is based on the idea that oftentimes professionals in the industry are highly skilled in their area of expertise, but lack a Master’s Degree. These same professionals frequently possess extensive industry experience, third-party industry certifications, and completion of applicable training that meets designated equivalency criteria.

The certificate serves as a career ladder approach to a credential or permit or as a stand-alone entity to document that a student has taken coursework related to subject matter proficiency and has acquired skills for successful employment as a teacher's aide, after-school program assistant, tutoring or other paraprofessional level classroom career.

The certificate is especially appropriate for students following various pathways to classroom teaching or an education-related field:

• The paraprofessional or aspiring paraprofessional teacher aides
• Homeschooling parents

Satisfies the specialization unit requirement for the Child Development Permit at the Master Teacher level. A grade of “C” or better is required in all courses.

✓ Satisfies the specialization unit requirement for the Child Development Permit at the Master Teacher level. In conjunction with core units, the holder can be employed as a Preschool teacher, if paired with the Child Development Lead Teacher certificate, the holder can be employed as a Lead Preschool Teacher or Mentor Teacher.
