In order to provide an additional pathway to an education-related career, this certificate is designed for students interested in an education/ teaching-related career who prefer online classes and/or cannot always attend traditional face-to-face classes due to employment, marital status, family responsibilities, distance, and expenses incurred with traditional education schedules. All certificate classes are online.

• The paraprofessional or aspiring paraprofessional teacher aide or homeschooling parent seeking professional development focused on supporting teaching and learning with technology.
• The aspiring paraprofessional or currently employed paraprofessional teacher aide seeking a career ladder approach to a teaching credential and/or child development permit seeking a certificate recognizing expertise in providing technology-based instructional support.
• The teacher aide paraprofessional who has decided against pursuing an AA and/or credential but would like to acquire knowledge and skills/ professional development relevant to serving as a teacher assistant or support staff in a classroom, school, or related environment, specializing in expertise in providing technology-based assistance.

The ECE certificate serves as an Early Child Education unit completion pathway and represents a career ladder approach to a credential or permit or a stand-alone entity to document that a student has taken 16 units of Early Childhood Education coursework. Coursework is aligned with subject matter proficiency for the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills for successful employment as a teacher's aide, after-school program assistant, tutoring or other paraprofessional level classroom career in ECE classrooms.

More specifically the certificate is designed to meet the needs of students following various pathways to classroom teaching or an education-related field:

Upon completion of this program students will be able to:

✔ Upon completion of 16 ECE units, the student will be able to document the acquisition of foundational knowledge and skills (as related to courses selected for the purpose of this certificate), relevant for employment as a teacher assistant or support staff in an early childhood education classroom or related environment.

A certificate is earned by students who have developed the skills necessary to work as associate teachers of preschool children in early childhood settings. Courses emphasize strong theoretical and practical skills needed to work with children 2-5 years. Courses fulfill Title 22 licensing requirements and Title 5 early childhood education course requirements for the Child Development Permit at the associate teacher level. A grade of “C” or better is required in all courses. Development Permit at the Associate level.

Program Outcomes

✓ Meets Title 22 minimum licensing requirements and prepares the holder to be a childcare provider in an early care and education program. This certificate aligns with the Child Development Permit at the Associate level.

This certificate prepares students to work as an Associate Teachers or Co-Teachers in an early care and learning program. This includes identifying stages of development, preparing a developmentally appropriate curriculum, facilitating children’s learning in all domains of development and supporting social skills. Students will gain hands-on experience in a preschool classroom where they can develop effective teaching and interaction skills. Courses fulfill Title 22 licensing requirements, Title 5 early childhood education course requirements for the Child Development Permit at the teacher level, and 24 units of ECE required for Transitional Kindergarten teachers. A grade of “C” or better is required in all courses.

Program Outcome

✓ Meets the child development course requirements of the Child Development Permit at the Teacher level and provides enhanced employability, the holder can be employed as a Preschool Teacher or as part of a teaching team. It meets the needs of transitional kindergarten teachers who are required to have 24 units of child development or early childhood education in addition to their bachelor’s degree and multiple subjects teaching credential.

This certificate prepares students to work as an Assistant Teacher or Teacher Aide in an early care and education program. This includes understanding theories and stages of development, family and school connections, developing a creative curriculum, and providing positive guidance strategies. Courses emphasize strong theoretical and practical skills needed to work with children 2-5 years and students will gain hands-on experience in a preschool classroom. Courses fulfill Title 22 licensing requirements and Title 5 early childhood education course requirements for the Child Development Permit at the teacher level. A grade of “C” or better is required in all courses.

✓ This certificate builds upon core knowledge and provides augmented skills and knowledge beyond the minimum requirements for employment. The holder can be employed as an Assistant Teacher, Teacher, or Teacher Aide in early care and education programs.

This certificate prepares the student to act in a leadership and administrative capacity in an early childhood program. This includes providing for budget design and fiscal management, marketing, creating personnel policies and procedures, leadership skills, developing a staff in-service plan, and designing a comprehensive educational philosophy. Courses fulfill Title 22 licensing requirements and Title 5 early childhood education course requirements for the Child Development Permit at the Site Supervisor level. A grade of “C” or better is required in all courses.

Program Outcome

✓ Meets Title 22 minimum licensing requirements to be employed as a Childcare Center Administrator, Director, or Supervisor. Meets the child development requirements for the Child Development Permit at the Site Supervisor, and the Program Director level.

This certificate addresses skills and competencies generally developed during a student’s secondary educational experiences. Students are awarded the Chemistry Skills Certificate as evidence they have passed at least three Chemistry Skills classes, to ensure their competency in the material. Students who complete this certificate have had extended exposure and practice in the areas of applying mathematical principles, problem-solving, and laboratory techniques to chemistry concepts to compensate for skills not learned in high school. This will improve student retention, success, and ability to transfer to colleges and get laboratory work.

The Ceramics certificate covers the interaction of clay and glaze, studio organization and maintenance, and industrial specialization. This program is intended to provide the necessary tools for a student to perform at basic levels within the ceramic community.
