Completion of this certificate, issued through the Business and Computing Division, will enable students to apply for entry-level positions in C++ programming. A grade of “C” or better is required in all courses. All courses must be completed at Orange Coast College.

Program Outcome

✓ Program completers will be able to write programs in C++ using classes, flow-of-control and fundamental data structure.

This program will prepare students for employment in music stores, record shops, and other commercial music activities. Many opportunities in the business of music are available to students with a broad general knowledge of how this segment of the music industry functions in addition to traditional musical skills.

The Avionics program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as installation, maintenance, and repair technicians for avionic equipment in private, corporate, and commercial aircraft.

The aircraft industry is quickly evolving its level of sophisticated navigational and communications systems to include microprocessor-based systems in all areas of the airframe. This requires a new competent workforce capable of the state-of-the-art technology of the future.

This two-semester certificate program combines theory and laboratory practices with hands-on application in actual aircraft. Upon completion, the student will be ready for employment in this fast-growing and exciting field.

Program Outcomes

✓ Have the necessary skills and training for Avionics proficiency which may be required for employment.
Be able to improve or develop additional proficiencies required for professional growth or advancement in their current employment.

✓ All qualification training and tests are prescribed and follow the guide of the Federal Aviation.

This program of study academically prepares men and women of all ages for entry into the world of commercial aviation. In addition to airline flying many positions are available worldwide for trained commercial pilots. Businesses large and small hire corporate pilots for executive transport. Government agencies, both federal and state, hire commercial pilots for law enforcement, land management, wildlife management and staff logistics. Pilots are also in demand for fire suppression, emergency medical transportation and charter.

The curriculum is designed for students with no flying experience. Courses will systematically prepare individuals academically for the certificates and ratings required to operate aircraft as a commercial pilot. In addition, flight lab courses are offered as suggested electives enabling the student to complete all aspects of their training under the auspices of the college and to accrue the flight hours necessary for licensing as a commercial pilot.

Program Outcomes

✓ Students will develop the analytical and critical thinking skills necessary for completion of aviation flight training and successful completion of federally administered knowledge and practical tests.

✓ Students will develop a baseline understanding of industry terminology along with the analytical and critical thinking skills necessary to enter the air transportation industry as professionals in non-flying capacities such as: ground operations, customer services, gate attendants, aviation sales, flight crew attendants, and charter flight coordinators.

The Automation Fundamentals Certificate courses provide students with the foundational skills training needed for a multitude of careers in Automation. This certificate creates a pathway into capstone career programs, either advanced certificates or AS degrees or BS degrees, in disciplines such as Electrical Technology, Industrial Electronics, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, Robotics, Building Automation Systems, HVAC/R, and Water-Wastewater Technology. This certificate is transferrable between six partner colleges in Orange County that offer these career programs.

Program Outcomes

✓ Students will be able to use fundamental electrical laws and mathematics to analyze AC and DC Circuits.

✓ Students will be able to use diagnostic tools on industrial systems and work safely in accordance with NFPA 70E.

✓ Students will acquire the skills necessary to connect to a PLC, diagnose system problems, backup a program, and restore a program to a controller.

✓ Students will gain proficiency in reading and creating schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic diagrams for advanced control systems.

This curriculum was developed with an advisory committee comprised of Criminal Justice administrators. Its purpose is to provide basic fundamentals for entry into any type of Criminal Justice agency. The curriculum leads to the Associate in Arts degree and/or a Certificate of Achievement in Criminal Justice.

The Esthetics Program consists of one-semester with a minimum of 600 hours of training to prepare the student for a career in skin care. The student will learn bone structure, chemistry of products, skin analysis, use of packs and masks, electric modalities, corrected makeup, and correct use of products. Upon completion, the student is eligible to take the California State Board examination to become a Licensed Esthetician. Students in this program must maintain a minimum grade of C (2.0 GPA) in all courses in order to advance to the next level in the program. In addition to the 600 hours, the student will include general education requirements to receive the Associate in Arts degree. 

The program offers a full-time, day-only program. Students attend classes Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Student attendance is mandatory. English-speaking and comprehension skills are critical to success as well as safety in this program. Students with inadequate English proficiency may be dropped from the program until adequate proficiency is achieved. The Cosmetology Department has established standards of conduct and personal grooming. Additionally, there are attendance policies that must be adhered to by all students enrolling in the program. State law requires that students be at least seventeen years of age and have a valid social security number or an individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) when applying for the California State Board examination.

Program Level Learning Outcomes:

✓ Evaluate and assess the skin care regime for the client.

✓ Obtain basic knowledge and information to pass the State Board Examination thru continued assessment by instructors, by completing State Board assignments and procedures in the prescribed time and passing with a 75% or greater.

✓ Analyze, evaluate and demonstrate skills necessary for a successful career as an Esthetician, including proper hygiene and good grooming, professional ethics, customer relations and general salon management practices.

The Drones in Real Estate program is designed for aspiring digital media professionals and real estate agents in Orange County. This curriculum comprises three courses: Drone Photography/Videography, Real Estate Appraisal, and Digital Photography/Videography. The program equips students with the skills to capture, evaluate, and present drone media for real estate purposes. Intended audience: Digital media enthusiasts, real estate professionals, and freelance videographers.

Program Level Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

✔ Demonstrate proficiency operating drones for aerial capture in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines, evaluate real estate properties using drone-captured data for more precise appraisals, and skillfully integrate this media into comprehensive marketing campaigns using advanced digital editing techniques.

Graduates of this certificate will be able to actively serve as an assistant or head coach through the application of what is learned in exercise and athletic psychology, coaching theory, and the coaching practicum where theory-based methods are observed and practiced in supervised observations.

✓ Students will be able to demonstrate and teach the skills and techniques to a variety of skill levels associated with the sport in their area of specialization
