You will learn the fundamentals of starting and operating your own business. The program includes basic business skills as well as specific courses in starting and managing a business. Coursework covers evaluating a business opportunity, preparing a business plan, planning advertising and sales promotions, marketing a product or service, and financial management for the entrepreneurial company.

The Business certificate is designed to help students explore an educational path in business to achieve employment or promotion at a small, medium, or large firm. Coursework exposes students to the fields of marketing, human resource management, operations and manufacturing, accounting, and finance. Students may select specific elective courses to meet their professional or educational goals. The courses in the program allow for further career and industry research.

This noncredit certificate is designed to support students, particularly English learners, in developing readiness for Allied Health Programs at OCC. Students will be able to be better prepared to successfully acquire Medical Terminology and self-advocate in Allied Health Programs. English learners completing this program will have the opportunity to gain foundational information about the U.S. healthcare system and support instruction in pronunciation and word part knowledge.

✓ Students will apply various language forms to self-advocate in the classroom and in LMS settings. 

This 13-unit certificate program provides students with the necessary knowledge to make informed business and financial decisions. Students will gain an understanding of basic economic theory as it applies to practical business decision-making, resource allocation issues, accounting practices, international markets, legal considerations, and consumer behavior patterns. This certificate is useful as a pathway to a transfer degree, to advance a career, or to gain intuition into business and economic trends.

Coastline’s Building Codes Professional program (BCT) is a comprehensive building codes program taught by experts in the field which includes structural, mechanical, and technical aspects of construction; building, plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning codes; and related laws. International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO), International Code Councils (ICC), and California Code exams and licenses are covered to prepare students for employments in residential, commercial, and code enforcement.

✔ Assess new and existing residential, commercial, public and industrial buildings, and offer recommendations for property improvement before or after purchase or for a specific project.
✔ Working with architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners, inspect and evaluate construction plans, use of materials and workmanship to assure they comply and meet minimum code requirements.

This program encompasses a selection of five major areas of laboratory skills for the preprofessional student. Students who finish this program will have mastered the hands-on basic laboratory skills covered in the four of the five courses: Cell and Molecular Biology (BIOL 180), Human Anatomy (BIOL C220), Microbiology (BIOL C210), Human Physiology (BIOL C225), and Introduction to Chemistry (CHEM C110).

This program prepares students for entry into healthcare professional programs or occupations in the medical field.  Program coursework provides many of the science prerequisites for graduate programs in health professions such as nursing, physician assistant, pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, dental hygiene, radiology technology, dentist, and medical doctor.

This program emphasizes common coursework for careers in Allied Health. Health care continues to be one of the top job employment opportunities throughout the nation.

✔ Distinguish between personal opinion and evidence gathered using the scientific process.

This program prepares students for ground operations and airport management. Ground operations involve all aspects of aircraft handling at the airport as well as aircraft movement around the aerodrome. Managers are at the center of the airport. They are the decision-makers and policy-makers for airports. They create jobs and manage each airport department. The job is multi-faceted and vital to aviation safety. Airports are often one of the largest employers in a local area.

Corporate aviation is one of the largest growing entities within the aviation community. The corporate side of aviation has flourished, with an increased demand for larger aircraft and “Third Crew” member responsibilities and placements.

Program Outcome

✓ The outcome for the Certificate of Achievement is to prepare students for employment in all levels of corporate and retail aviation including: flight attendant, ground operations, airport management, guest service agents, and other airline careers.

Orange County and neighboring areas are rich in part-time job opportunities for American Sign Language Interpreting. This program is designed to provide students with sign language interpreting skills sufficient for entry-level employment. This curriculum is recommended for people who desire to obtain skills necessary to function effectively as an American Sign Language Interpreter.

Program Level Learning Outcomes:

1. Operate within a cultural knowledge of the Deaf.

2. Transliterate and interpret between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL).

3. Interpret between ASL and spoken English.

4. Understand specialized vocabulary and ethical practices that enable the student to function effectively as an interpreter for the Deaf.
