This Staff Accountant Certificate of Achievement provides a collective study of financial and managerial accounting principles to prepare students for employment opportunities in general accounting, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.

Program Level Learning Outcomes:

1. Process business transactions into an accounting information system.

2. Prepare accrual-basis financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

3. Interpret financial statements to assess an organization's operational performance, profitability, financial condition, liquidity, solvency, and ability to generate future cash flows.

4. Perform a variety of financial ratios and variance analysis metrics to facilitate management decision making.

5. Operate primary systems and applications used in accounting.

Gerontology, the interdisciplinary study of aging, offers students an understanding of their own aging and of society’s response to the increasing population of older people. Biological, psychological, and sociological aspects of aging are explored. Coursework for the program in Aging Studies will provide information about the aging process and training to work in services and agencies that interact with older people.

Those who hold degrees and/or who wish to advance their present careers by adding professional gerontology education and training components to their qualifications may complete the Certificate of Achievement without obtaining the A.A. Degree. Much of the coursework required for the Certificate of Achievement also qualifies for general education transfer requirements as well as continuing education units for a variety of fields, including RCFE, NHAP, LVN, CNA, HHA, and RN.

This program provides a study of federal and state taxation principles and regulations, with emphasis on tax computation and preparation of tax returns and forms. Areas of tax administration, tax planning, and emerging tax issues are explored. This program is designed for students who wish to work in the field of tax accounting. The program also prepares students for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Special Enrollment Examination to become an enrolled agent. An enrolled agent is a tax practitioner who is authorized to practice before the IRS with respect to all taxation matters and is the highest credential granted by the IRS.

Program Level Learning Outcomes:

1. Identify the taxable entities and explain their basic tax treatment.

2. Utilize the principles of taxation to prepare a variety of tax returns, forms, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for individuals and business entities.

3. State the rationale for tax law and the multiple objectives of tax policy makers.

4. Assess how taxes affect economic decisions of taxable entities as they relate to tax planning and public policy.

5. Outline the major elements of tax administration: information dissemination, tax collection, reviews and audits of tax returns, the appeals process, appearing before the IRS, and other aspects with respect to enforcement of the Internal Revenue Code and related Regulations.

The certificate in Intermediate Accounting will enable students to succeed in understanding the topics that are tested in the Financial Accounting and Reporting section of the CPA exam.

This Bookkeeping Certificate of Achievement prepares students with the necessary accounting knowledge and software proficiency to become bookkeepers and accounting clerks for a variety of businesses and organizations.

Program Level Learning Outcomes:

1. Describe the framework for double-entry accounting and apply transaction analysis in an accounting information system.
2. Demonstrate a variety of QuickBooks functions: matching transactions, processing sales orders, invoicing, payment processing, and bank reconciliations.
3. Construct financial statements and perform basic financial statement analysis for small business using Excel.

The Airline Transport Pilot certificate of specialization covers those areas of aeronautical knowledge required under Federal Aviation Regulation 61.155 for the FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate. Courses are also intended to satisfy the knowledge requirements for students who are pursuing careers as aircraft dispatchers.

✓ Students will develop the analytical and critical thinking skills necessary for completion of flight training and successful completion of federally administered knowledge exams for airline transport pilot certification.

The Accounting program consists of three options that will prepare an individual for preparation in the accounting field as bookkeepers, junior accountants, or tax practitioners.

This program provides training for students who desire to be Airframe Technicians. The training received enables the technician to return to service an airplane, related part, and appliance after performing, supervising or inspecting its maintenance or alterations. This Certificate of Achievement can be acquired in two semesters, one intersession, and one summer school session.

This certificate would enable students to achieve employment at local aircraft manufacturing and repair facilities.

Program Outcomes

✓ Have the necessary skills and training for proficiency in taking written, oral and practical exams for AIRFRAME certification which may be required for employment.

✓ Be able to improve or develop additional proficiencies required for professional growth or advancement in their current employment. All qualification training and tests are prescribed and follow the guide of the Federal Aviation.
