The Accounting program consists of three options that will prepare an individual for preparation in the accounting field as bookkeepers, junior accountants, or tax practitioners.

The Business Administration program is designed to provide the opportunity for the transfer business major to achieve an Associate in Science degree. Students are advised to check course transferability for the school to which they intend to transfer.

Complete the Business Administration Certificate of Achievement and the Associate in Science graduation requirements as outlined in the Graduation Requirements section of the catalog.

This program provides training for students who desire to be Airframe Technicians. The training received enables the technician to return to service an airplane, related part, and appliance after performing, supervising or inspecting its maintenance or alterations. This Certificate of Achievement can be acquired in two semesters, one intersession, and one summer school session.

This certificate would enable students to achieve employment at local aircraft manufacturing and repair facilities.

Complete the Airframe Certificate of Achievement and the Associate in Science graduation requirements as outlined in the Graduation Requirements section of the catalog.

Program Outcomes

✔ Students successfully completing the Orange Coast College Aviation Maintenance Technology program will have the necessary skills and training for proficiency in taking written, oral and practical exams for AIRFRAME certification which may be required for employment.
✔ Working craftsmen will be able to improve or develop additional proficiencies required for professional growth or advancement in their current employment. All qualification training and tests are prescribed and follow the Federal Aviation guide.

This program provides students with the technical skills and systems analysis necessary for entry-level positions as Airframe and Powerplant Certificated Mechanics in the aviation industry, such as airframe inspection, powerplant inspection, maintenance, and return-to-flight status of all types of U.S. Certificated aircraft.

Trained technicians are also successful in related fields of aircraft manufacturing, electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, sheet metal, quality control, civil and military defense. Additionally, students who have followed this program may earn an engineering degree at any one of several four-year institutions.

In cooperation with the pilot, the flight dispatcher furnishes a flight plan that enables the aircraft to arrive at its destination on schedule with the maximum payload and the least operating cost. The flight dispatcher considers en route and destination weather, winds aloft, alternate destinations, fuel required, altitudes, and traffic flow. The dispatcher's signature, along with that of the pilot, releases the aircraft for flight. The dispatcher maintains a constant watch on all flights dispatched, and is responsible in joint agreement with the airline captain for flight planning, route and altitude selection, fuel load requirements, aircraft legality and complying with FAA regulations. The dispatcher is the go-between for the pilot and ground service personnel, and keeps all personnel concerned with the flight informed about its status. The dispatcher must be familiar with navigation facilities over airline routes and at airports as well as with the takeoff, cruising, and landing characteristics of all aircraft operated by the airline. The flight dispatcher also must ride periodically in the cockpit with the flight crew to observe flight routes, conditions, and airports.

The Air Conditioning and Heating Service and Installation certificate is a first level program of study that will prepare students with entry level skills to begin a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) career. The skills gained in the program will give individuals the advantage in a crowd of candidates applying for entry-level jobs Completion of this first certificate will enable students to be employed as a maintenance technician and work toward becoming a journeyman, while also continuing their studies to earn the next level major certificate and advance in their career and earning potential.

The Marketing certificate programs are designed to train those individuals whose career paths involve the creative techniques of both oral and written sales presentations, advertising, and marketing. Courses emphasize the tools used by marketers, the environmental forces affecting the marketing process, sales communication skills, the major components of modern advertising and promotion, marketing research, and advertising planning and strategy. All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.

The Building Construction Certificate of Achievement is a flexible certificate to develop skills for the construction industry. Students may select any combination of courses that total eighteen (18) or more units from the following list. Education can be used towards satisfying the Contractor’s Licensing Board experience requirements. Note: CNST A165 Construction Safety/CAL OSHA and CNST A195 Residential Code or CNST A194 Introduction to Building Codes are required to earn the Building Construction Certificate.

🗸 Be prepared to work in the construction field in positions including, but not limited to work areas such as inspection, management, and as hands-on skilled tradespeople.

The Weld Testing Certificates will be awarded upon successful completion of a proficiency test for each identified level (e.g., Level I, II, etc.) within a category of welding (i.e., SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, GMAW or Pipe). The indicated Weld Testing class must be repeated for each type of certificate received. Higher levels of certification will potentially lead to better paying jobs within the industry.

Successful work in landscape design requires a comprehensive, multidisciplinary education in aspects of horticulture, design, and more. Without requiring prior background, the Landscape Design Certificate program provides entry-level skills for those seeking employment in the landscaping field or continuing education for landscapers, florists/nursery growers, architects, contractors, and anyone interested in a broader range of knowledge in this area.

The courses enable you to develop aesthetic sensitivity and environmental awareness, a thorough knowledge of historical precedent, a definable and defensible design methodology, the technical knowledge and skills necessary to compete effectively for jobs, and a comprehensive portfolio.
