The Certificate Program in Business Administration at California State University Channel Islands (CI) provides the basic business skills and knowledge foundation for career advancement and success.

The Certificate in Business Administration provides basic business skills to post-baccalaureate and graduate students. The certificate program is suitable for: 

(i) Business professionals who wish to update their knowledge, skills, and abilities; 

(ii) Managers in science, technology, or engineering who seek a business orientation; 

(iii) Individuals making a transition into a managerial position; 

(iv) Individuals returning to the workforce, or considering a career change;

The Stem Cell Technology Certificate Program focuses on modern aspects of stem cell technology, applications in regenerative medicine, and the techniques of stem cell science, including cell culture and characterization and maintenance of pluripotent human embryonic and adult stem cell lines.

Upon completion of the program, the students are expected to:

1. Describe the specific culture requirements and characteristics of various stem cell lines;
2. Demonstrate ability to routinely culture and maintain human pluripotent and multipotent stem cell lines
3. Apply knowledge and skills in stem cell science in research projects.

The Pest Control Adviser certificate program provides the 42 units of academic coursework necessary for students to qualify for the Pest Control Adviser examination offered by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation. Students earning a BA/BS in Biology can incorporate all but seven of these units as part of the lower and upper division requirements in the major or from required supporting courses in chemistry. The remaining units, Integrated Pest Management (BIOL 472) and Advanced Topics in Production Systems (BIOL 474), will be offered through Extended University’s Special Sessions. The Certificate shall be awarded through Extended University’s Special Sessions.

Prerequisites: Previously earned degree in the natural sciences or current enrollment in BA/BS in Biology. Non-matriculated students with at least two years of relevant work experience in agriculture can be admitted directly into the certificate program and may enroll with the permission of the instructor. Some electives have prerequisites (see course descriptions).

The certificate program in Digital Media Art at California State University Channel Islands is designed to prepare individuals for an entry-level career working in the expanding field of Digital Media Art. Anyone interested in Digital Media can get the certificate, including non-majors. Art majors who are already taking the courses in Digital Media will likely be eligible for the certificate just by completing the major. This Certificate is also available for non-CSUCI students who are interested in coming back to school and bolstering their skills through the Extended Education program.

The courses in this series focus on multimedia, digital design for print media, web design, digital photography, motion graphics, and visual effects for film/video and computer animation leading to an in-depth understanding and technical proficiency working in computer-based media. The Digital Media Art Certificate is not a bad thing for a résumé, and demonstrates a critical level of immersion in the field.

Art: Digital Media Art Certificate - 18 units

The certificate program in Digital Media Art is designed to prepare individuals for an entry-level career working in the expanding field of Digital Media Art. Courses specifically focusing on multimedia, digital design for print media, Web design, digital photography, motion graphics, and visual effects for film/video and computer animation lead to an in-depth understanding and technical proficiency working in computer-based media. This certificate consists of six 3-unit courses for a total of 18 units.

This three-course certificate program provides practical instruction applicable to materials, processing, product design and tooling. The main emphasis is on practical aspects of Plastics Engineering Technology without being extremely technical so that the knowledge achieved can be applied in day-to-day applications. The PowerPoint presentation used throughout this course is descriptive, practical and presented in simple, easy-to-understand language. It is widely illustrated with diagrams and photographs to assist students in understanding the sometimes-detailed subject matter.

The program is targeted at technical and non-technical audiences including Sales and Marketing personnel, Engineers, Product and Tool Designers, Purchasing Managers, Plant managers, Tool Makers, Molding Supervisors, Quality Assurance personnel and for audiences desiring to acquire basic knowledge, expand their horizons, enhance their career or simply to take a refresher course in Plastics Engineering Technology.

The need for Electric Utility Planners is estimated to increase by 20% in the next five years due to an anticipated increase in new construction projects, grid modernization, aging infrastructure, and employee retirements.  The program at the College of Professional and Global Education (CPGE) at Cal Poly Pomona (CPP), will prepare anyone pursuing the Electric Utility Planner career path to meet the demand of the workforce industry.

The program includes two (7-week) Core Classes (UPC 100 & UPC 101) and one (6-10 week) Elective Class.  UPC 100 & UPC 101, Core Classes include: introduction to electric utility planning; rules, rates and tariffs; basic electrical theory; planner roles & responsibilities, meter spotting; overhead and underground material recognition, right-of-way; work order mapping; design construction concepts; overview of the distribution and the electrical grid.   Students must also complete one Elective Class in either Certified Associate in Project Management, Construction Management, AutoCAD, or Pole Loading with SPIDA®calc.

This course is designed for construction on-site and office staff, and non-construction agency management charged with construction oversight responsibilities. It is also suitable for high school graduates who are interested in entering into the construction field as well as developers/real estate brokers who want to better understand the built-environment process. This course is also appropriate for homeowners looking to remodel or renovate their homes and who desire to better understand the design plans being created to accomplish the work.
