The Department of Information Systems offers a post-baccalaureate credit certificate in Advanced Information Systems, designed to provide an academic base for information systems professionals in such specialties as systems analysis and design, data administration, client-server systems, web-based systems, object-oriented and visual programming, and distributed data processing as well as information systems management. The study of advanced techniques and software productivity tools is emphasized. This certificate program is suitable for students who have completed, or expect to earn, an undergraduate degree in a major other than Computer Information Systems; graduate students in Business Administration; and information systems professionals who hold a bachelor’s degree in any field.

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate for Pre-Health Professionals

This post-baccalaureate credit certificate program provides an opportunity for students interested in pursuing a health professions career to strengthen their academic record and/or complete the requisite coursework for subsequent applications for admission to health professions programs (e.g. medical, pharmacy, dental, veterinary).

 

The program offers two options designed to meet the needs of students with distinct academic backgrounds. 

- The first option, academic record enhancement, is a one-year program for students who have already completed the core pre-health professions pre-requisite science courses but are not yet fully competitive for admission to health professions school programs. It is designed to make post-baccalaureate students more competitive for admission through a combination of advanced science coursework and health professions-related activities. Option I requires completion of a minimum of 18 units taken in post-baccalaureate standing.

- The second option, career-changer, is a two-year program for students whose academic background currently lacks the core pre-health professions pre-requisite science courses. It is designed to make post-baccalaureate students eligible and competitive for admission to health professions school programs through a combination of foundational science coursework and health professions-related activities. Option II requires completion of a minimum of 38 units taken in post-baccalaureate standing. A maximum of 6 units of previously completed post-baccalaureate coursework from another institution may be used toward completion of either option of the certificate program. Refer to the Graduate Study chapter of the University catalog for general information governing all certificate programs.

 

Students may begin the certificate program only during the Fall Semester of an academic year. Please see the departmental website for current application deadlines.

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate for California Reading Certificate

The California Reading Certificate is a postbaccalaureate credit program for an added authorization certificate issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. It authorizes the holder to assess student reading and provide reading instruction in response to those assessments. Certificate holders may perform the following services at a single school site at the grade level authorized by their prerequisite teaching credential:

- Develop and implement reading curriculum

- Adapt reading content curriculum

- Assist classroom teachers in these areas

 

The California Reading Certificate Program closely corresponds with the first half of the Reading and Language Arts Specialist Credential program and the Postsecondary Reading Certificate program. All the classes in the reading certificate program are in the M.A. in Education: Option in Reading Program.

Adapted Physical Education Added Authorization

The program leading to the Adapted Physical Education Added Authorization APEAA meets the subject matter requirements and entitles the holder to teach adapted physical education in California to individuals between the ages of 3 and 21 years who have exceptional needs. The 21-unit program is based upon a basic authorization to teach physical education.
