This Certificate of Achievement will provide students with the foundational skills necessary to take the ASE L3 Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist Exam and be accepted into a manufacturer’s training program for the service and repair of Electric Vehicles (EV) and Hybrid/Electric Vehicles (HEV). Subjects covered will include Electric Vehicle Safety, EV and HEV design, High voltage battery service and repair, drive systems, and the repair and service of power electronics.   

Program Learning Outcomes

- Utilize service information (electrical diagrams, diagnostic charts, specifications) to perform diagnosis and repair on hybrid and electric vehicles

- Complete all laboratory tasks using recommended tools and equipment following the manufacturer's repair procedures and safety policies

- Describe the basic function and operation of major systems and parts common to most hybrid electric vehicles

This program provides state-of-the-art training and applicable employment skills in the following ASE certification topics: Electrical, Engine Performance, and Advanced Engine Performance. Also provides training and preparation for CA state emissions inspection license. Students must complete each course with a grade of “C” or better to be awarded the Certificate in Automotive Technology.

- Recognize, diagnose, and repair faults in the following systems: Starting, charging, lighting, instrumentation, climate control, safety, navigation, communication, fuel, ignition, valvetrain, throttle, emissions, powertrain, and stability.

- Demonstrate skills using online vehicle diagnostic/repair information and specialized test equipment that is consistent with industry standards.

- Execute safe, proper, and ethical work practices.

This course of study provides significant training and applicable skills development for future employment as automotive service technicians. Topics include brakes, transmissions, air conditioning, suspension, steering, and body chassis electrical systems. Students will acquire and demonstrate skills using classroom, lab, and online vehicle diagnostic/repair simulations using specialized test equipment and service literature that is consistent with industry practices. Students will also execute safe, proper, and ethical work practices. Students must complete each course with a grade of “C” or better.

Program Learning Outcomes 

- Demonstrate knowledge of shop hazards and safe practices in an automotive repair environment.

- Demonstrate the ability to diagnose, inspect, measure, and repair transmission, drivetrain, AC, brake and suspension systems in a competent and professional manner.

- Apply basic electrical principles to the repair of chassis and drive train systems.

Successful completion of the courses for the American Honda Certificate of Achievement provides the necessary skills for employment at American Honda as a service technician. Students must complete each course with a grade of “C” or better, complete all required Honda online training modules and intern at a Honda or Acura dealership to be awarded the Certificate of Achievement.

The Community Service Officer Certificate of Achievement prepares students to work in the field of public safety and security, both in the public and private sectors. The coursework emphasizes the development of communication skills, criminal law and investigation, contemporary issues facing law enforcement, ethical and moral reasoning competence, and skills necessary for the Community Service Officer (CSO).  The Certificate of Achievement supports career pathways to law enforcement, government, and private industry as Community Service Officers (CSO), security personnel, police explorers, and ancillary legal and professional support staff.  Students are required to complete AJ 120 and AJ 139 at Evergreen Valley College to be eligible for this certificate.

- Demonstrate effective communication necessary for the Community Service Officer (CSO).

- Interpret and analyze concepts and theories related to criminal law, law enforcement, Community Service Officers, and legal support staff from multiple perspectives.

- Apply and integrate terminology and practices that relate to criminal law, law enforcement, Community Service Officers, and legal support staff.

- Recognize the value of a multicultural society and the importance of legal, procedural, and social justice within legal and public environments.

- Analyze and consider personal decisions and ideas related to legal, moral, and ethical standards that ensure a professional level of civility, civic responsibility, and public perception.

This certificate is designed to train for higher-level income tax preparation positions. Graduates from this program will have studied all areas tested in the Enrolled Agent exam given by the IRS. ACCTG  096A, ACCTG 096B and ACCTG 096C must be completed at Evergreen Valley College to be counted toward this certificate.  A grade of “C” or better in each course is required to receive this certificate.
