The Human Services and Social Work program provides comprehensive training resulting in well-rounded Human Services and Social Work paraprofessionals.  The curriculum is designed for people interested in various areas of employment such as mental and behavioral health, social welfare, developmental services, criminal justice, and chemical dependency.  Graduates leave our program with a solid understanding of the human condition and the necessary skills needed to work with a diverse population.

A Certificate of Achievement can be earned upon completion of the 18.5-unit major. All courses in the major must be completed with a minimum grade of C or a P if taken on a Pass/No Pass basis.  While units in this program are transferable to other institutions, students should contact a counselor for more information.

This program is designed to provide theory and practical experience needed to enter the horticulture field or prepare for advancement or certification. It also offers some of the basic courses required of horticulture majors transferring to four-year institutions.

The Certificate of Achievement can be obtained by completing the 23-unit major. The Associate in Science can be obtained by completing the 23-unit major, General Education, and electives as needed to complete a minimum of 60 units. All courses for this major must be completed with a minimum grade of C or a P if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis.

Students who complete the Horticulture Science Certificate of Achievement/Associate in Science will be able to:

This program of study was developed to assist students who desire to advance as a firefighter, or to those looking to pursue a career in the fire service field as a non-safety employee that does not require a FF1 Academy. Upon completion of the certificate, the student may become eligible for a career as a Fire Inspector or Fire Prevention Specialist. The additional completion of a general education pathway leads to the Associate degree and will aid existing firefighters in promoting/advancing through the ranks of engineer, captain, battalion chief, etc. Some fire departments require an associate degree before a captain can take the promotional exam for battalion chief.

The Certificate of Achievement can be obtained upon completion of the 18-unit major. All courses in the major must be completed with a minimum grade of C or a P if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis. Completion of this program provides active firefighter promotional opportunities as well as a pathway to a 4-year degree.

This general education pattern is appropriate for students planning to transfer to a campus in either the University of California or California State University system. In each category, a specific number of units must be completed. A minimum of 34-37 total units is required. All requirements for this Certificate must be met. It is essential that students who want to complete this Certificate see a counselor to acquire the appropriate list of courses and the rules for completing the IGETC requirements.

Art digital media is a set of technologies and techniques that can be used to enhance the presentation of information. Art digital media uses computers to create productions that bring together text, sounds, animation, graphic art and video to educate, inform and entertain. Classes are designed to serve both working professionals who wish to upgrade their skills and students who wish to enter the field.

To earn a certificate of accomplishment, students must complete each course used to meet a certificate requirement with a “C” grade or higher. Required courses are available in the evening and during the day.

The certificate of achievement in web design prepares students for entry-level employment in the web and mobile industries. This program of study introduces students to the design and technical skills needed to create easy to use websites that function well regardless of screen size. Students use current professional tools and apply industry best practice of web design. Students participate in a collaborative team-oriented learning experience that reflects human-centered design processes.

Potential areas of employment include web design, user experience design (UX), and user interface design (UI). This certificate is an entry point for building toward the certificate of achievement or associate in arts degree in interaction design.

The program goal is to provide the skills necessary to enter this growing, professional field.

Some examples where students might find employment using their design and illustration skills might include website design and development, design and illustration of electronic magazines and books, design of interactive marketing presentations, interactive learning products, scientific visualizations, etc. Advanced students have the opportunity to complete professional career preparation courses that deal with specific business issues relevant for designers, illustrators, and digital artists.

The game design certificate of achievement program provides students with a strong foundation in the fundamental aspects of game design. Students will learn the skills to develop game designs including techniques such as game engine integration. Courses present material that will take the student through the production process and workflow of game design. The program goal is to provide the skills necessary to enter this growing, professional field.

The types of industries that employ individuals with game design skills include game design companies, game development for the web, or assets for game production. Advanced students have the opportunity to create portfolios to prepare for game design careers.

To earn a certificate of achievement in game design, students must complete each course used to meet a major requirement with a “C” grade or higher. Certificate requirements can be completed by attending classes in the day, evening, online, or a combination of those.

This program is designed to provide students with entry-level skills in the fields of Surveying Technician, Civil Drafting Technician, and/or mapping technician.

The Associate in Science may be obtained by completing the 26-26.5-unit major, General Education, and electives as needed to complete a minimum of 60 units. All courses for this major must be completed with a minimum grade of C or a P if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis.

The art digital media program prepares students for entry level employment in the digital media industry with a specialization in animation. This program of study will provide students with the design and technical skills needed for creating non-linear interactive digital media. Students will participate in a collaborative team-oriented learning experience that mirrors the multimedia industry design and production process. Additionally, students will explore multimedia career opportunities and develop a professional portfolio for entry into the workforce.

To earn a certificate of achievement, students must complete each course used to meet a certificate requirement with a “C” grade or higher. Required courses are available in the evening and during the day.
