The Computer Networking and System Administration program is intended to prepare students to work in the Information Technology (IT) industry in general, and more specifically in computer networking and system administration. Courses include the underlying networking concepts and theory, administering the network infrastructure including the Cisco Systems CCNA/CCNP courses, system and network administration using UNIX/Linux and Microsoft operating systems, network security, network management, and emerging technologies. Various certificates and degree options are available, including courses that transfer to four year universities for those students pursuing a bachelor's degree.

🗸 Demonstrate mastery of a computing knowledge base equivalent to passing an industry-level certification such as CompTIA, Cisco, Microsoft, Linux.

The CCNA Exam Preparation Certificate of Completion is a noncredit certificate designed to prepare students to successfully pass the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam. Once successfully certified, students will be able to apply for jobs in Information Technology (IT) and email administration, wiring, service desk, and networking design, security, and consulting.

The Communication Studies Certificate of Achievement expands the students' understanding and application of one-to-one, one-to-many, and group communication with the goal of enhancing employment skills.

Program Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate communication competence in a wide variety of communication modalities; including but not limited to one-to-one, one- to-many, virtual communication, group communication, intercultural communication, health communication, gender communication, and nonverbal communication.

This certificate is developed in cooperation with the Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC). The program has been fully endorsed by the WAFC and its member companies. The curriculum was developed out of a collaborative effort between several industry and college professionals and encompasses several business essentials, including the “soft skills” of management and communication required for career success in the retail industry. Although the program was developed by the food retail industry, its completion will help students to acquire necessary knowledge and skills to manage retail stores of any kind.

- Discuss the purpose, context, concepts, and processes of retailing and the retail environment and the responsibilities of the retail operations function.

- Explain the basic terms and concepts of accounting, and the content of financial statements and be able to understand and interpret the information they contain.

- Determine appropriate and inappropriate interview, hiring, and employee supervision procedures.

The Human Relations and Resources Certificate of Achievement focuses on the active involvement of the student in the learning process of human resource management theory and practices and the legal framework impacting employer/employee relations. The certificate is designed to prepare students for entry-level career positions in the growing field of human resource management.

Students pursuing the Entrepreneurship and Small Business Certificate of Achievement will learn the fundamentals of small business planning and management. The certificate is designed to prepare students for the challenges they may encounter in establishing and operating a small business.

Students also learn about careers and ethical issues in biotechnology. Career Options: Careers for those with a Biotechnology Certificate of Achievement would be animal care technician, assay analyst, laboratory assistant or technician, manufacturing technician, QA/QC technician. In addition to the biotechnology industry, jobs for technicians may be found in environmental testing labs, forensic labs, hospitals, plant pathology labs, research labs and wineries.

Students will have job entry skills for the following occupations: aviation mechanic, aircraft serviceperson, repair or sales of aircraft accessories, airframe specialist. Courses in the Aviation Technology Department are currently offered only during the day.

Learning Outcome(s):

- Successfully demonstrate the ability to pass the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) knowledge, oral, practical and written examinations in Powerplant subjects. Leading to obtaining FAA powerplant mechanic certification.

- Demonstrate a working knowledge and mechanical ability to identify and select aircraft hardware and materials, clean aircraft and perform corrosion control, heat treating, nondestructive testing, inspect welds, fluid lines and fittings, and aircraft weight and balance.

- Demonstrate the ability to solve and explain aviation related mathematical equations and physics concepts.

- Communicate both in writing and verbally about aircraft general maintenance concepts and processes using technical terms, to both professional and administrative audiences.

- Demonstrate the ability to display and apply proper behavior reflecting satisfactory safe work habits and ethics to fulfill program requirements and confidence to prepare for employment.

The Preparation for the STEM Workforce Certificate of Completion is a noncredit certificate designed to enhance student preparation for diverse STEM careers, and the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be successful. The certificate emphasizes hands-on and applied experiences for specific technical competence, as well as skills aimed at broad preparation to enter a variety of STEM fields.
