The skills learned in the program also prepare graduates for employment in fields such as aircraft manufacturing, electronics, hydraulics, welding, sheet metal, electrical systems, pneumatics, fuel systems, automotive repair, civil and military defense. This certificate is designed to prepare students to qualify for the Powerplant certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. These courses include the following subjects: reciprocating engines, turbines, lubrication systems, engine fuel systems, fuel metering systems, induction systems, ignition systems, engine electrical systems, engine cooling systems, engine exhaust system, engine instrument systems, engine control systems, engine fire protection systems and propellers. Students will have the opportunity to test run the engine that they repair. Students that complete this program may apply immediately to take the exams needed to obtain FAA Powerplant mechanic certificate.

The Biotechnology Certificate of Achievement provides the student with skills and job training essential for the field of biotechnology. Jobs include technical positions in genetic engineering, forensics, bioinformatics, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and medicine. This certificate program allows students to attain essential skills in biotechnology and provides opportunities to learn laboratory procedures and safety, how to record and analyze data, perform basic calculations and write laboratory documents. Students also learn about careers and ethical issues in biotechnology. Career options: careers for those with a Biotechnology Certificate of Achievement would be assay analyst, laboratory assistant or technician, manufacturing technician, QA/QC technician. Jobs for technicians may be found in environmental testing labs, forensic labs, hospitals, plant culturing labs, research labs and wineries.

These courses include the following subjects: sheet metal structures, wood and fabric structures, aircraft airframe inspection, assembly and rigging, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, aircraft electrical systems, cabin atmosphere controls, fuel systems, ice and rain systems, fire protection systems, instrument systems, position and warning systems, landing gear systems, and navigation and communication systems. All individuals will have to complete the General Aircraft Maintenance requirements in order to receive the FAA Aircraft Airframe Certificate of completion.

The Administration of Justice Program provides a course of study to prepare students for employment in private security and public law enforcement agencies, including: state parks, municipal police, game wardens, probation officers, county deputy sheriffs, county and state correctional officers and the federal government. The associate degree program will prepare students for transfer to UC and CSU bachelors programs (if the IGETC or CSU GE pattern is chosen.) The certificate program is an option for students whose employment objectives are with agencies who require less than an A.A. degree.

Those completing the AS-T in Administration of Justice degree will be able to transfer to the California State University system and be prepared to study in the following areas: Administration of Justice, Law Enforcement, Correctional Administration, Social Science, and Pre-Law. Students will be prepared to work in a variety of fields, including: public law enforcement agencies such as municipal police, probation officers, county deputy sheriffs, correctional offices, game wardens, state parks, and private security.

This program allows student to gain experience and knowledge in basic accounting skills, therefore preparing them for entry-level accounting jobs. Job opportunities include: accounting clerk, accounting assistant, bookkeeper, payroll clerk, billing clerk, and accounts receivable/payable clerk.

The Tax Preparation Certificate of Achievement teaches current federal and California income tax laws as related to individuals, corporations, partnerships, estates and trusts.

Topics include various aspects of the current tax laws, electronic research and methodologies and the use of technology for the preparation of income tax returns, and the use of spreadsheets in aiding tax preparation. This certificate is designed for students who desire a quick, two-semester, route to a career of a tax professional in public accounting, private industry or in a specialized tax preparation service and/or students wishing to pass the Special Enrollment Examination and become an enrolled agent with the Internal Revenue Service.

The Payroll Accounting Certificate of Achievement is tailored to students who wish to specialize in payroll accounting in private industry, accounting firms, or specialized payroll service organizations.

Payroll accounting is a specialized area of accounting that contains complex federal and state reporting requirements that change frequently in response to new legislation. The coursework required for this certificate includes basic accounting concepts coupled with specialized payroll accounting and reporting procedures.

Accounting graduates set up accounting systems that allow businesses or individuals to organize, maintain, and audit financial records. In their work, accountants may be involved in preparing tax returns, budgets, and financial statements, recording business transactions, advising businesses on accounting systems, or auditing financial records.

Employment opportunities in accounting are plentiful, and are expected to continue to grow in the foreseeable future.
 

The Accounting program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required for entry-level positions in accounting industry, government, financial institutions, and small businesses. The program encompasses classroom instruction and extensive hands-on application with both manual and computerized accounting systems. The coursework required for this certificate was carefully selected to develop, enhance or supplement students’ existing or prior knowledge and proficiency that is required to meet educational requirements to sit for the Uniform CPA Examination. The courses that are required for this certificate include financial and managerial accounting, internal and external reporting, financial statement analysis, accounting information systems, accounting ethics and professional responsibility, taxation of individuals and business entities, and business law. The Bookkeeping Certificate of Achievement is tailored for students who wish to have the basic foundation needed to enter the accounting field. Bookkeeping is the foundation for financial record keeping of any business and requires accurate analysis of an economic event then the proper recording of that event. Bookkeeping is a credentialed occupation that sustains lifelong employment as well as the foundation to step into higher-level accounting positions. The coursework required for this certificate includes basic accounting and information system concepts coupled with specialized accounting software and robust keyboarding skills.
