The Associate in Arts in Kinesiology for Transfer (AA-T) degree will prepare students with the strong foundation necessary for pursuing studies at the university level in various careers in the health, fitness, and sports industries. Career options include sports coach, strength and conditioning specialist, athletic director, physical therapist, personal trainer, health club owner, exercise physiologist, sports psychologist, sports management and athletic trainer.  The AA-T in Kinesiology is intended for students who plan to complete a baccalaureate degree in Kinesiology or a related field of study at California State University (CSU). Students who complete this degree are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major. Students transferring to a CSU campus that accepts the AA-T in Kinesiology will be required to complete no more than 60-semester units after transfer to earn a baccalaureate degree.  

 

To be awarded the Associate Degree for Transfer, students must have the following:

- Completion of 60 CSU transferable semester units.

- A minimum of at least 2.0 GPA in CSU transferable courses (note that a higher GPA may be required in some institutions).

- Completion of at least 18 units in the major with a grade of “C” or better. A “P” (Pass) grade is also an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis.

This Certificate of Achievement program is designed to develop the translation and interpreting skills necessary for service as a Vietnamese-English interpreter in public and private sectors, such as the courts, law firms, medical organizations, state agencies, public schools, and businesses. This program is specifically designed to prepare students to pass the State of California Court Interpreter Certification Exam and the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters Exam. Students must complete each course with a grade of “C” or better.

 

Minimum Requirements:

- Students must be fluent in English and Vietnamese and have a speaking proficiency equivalent to that of a native speaker.

- Students are required to take a bilingual proficiency assessment.

- Students should have completed at least one term of college English.

- Students must submit a Translation & Interpreting application to the Language Arts Division Office.

The Social Justice Studies-Ethnic Studies Program is an academic curriculum composed of courses that critically explore, through interdisciplinary means, the past and present experiences of disempowered racial and ethnic minority groups in the United States. In order to recognize the complex aspects of ethnic identity. Our program focuses on five themes: 1) diaspora, 2) colonialism, 3) ethnic relations, 4) dominant-minority relations, and 5) community formation. We explore these and related topics from a variety of perspectives, always conscious of how they intersect with gender, sexuality, class, and nation. Ethnic Studies students have followed many career paths that include: Education, Law, Social Work, Immigrant Rights, Administration of Justice, Civil Rights, Politics, Government, Community and Housing Development, Community Organizing and more.

The Social Justice Studies-Chicanx Studies Program Studies program strives to begin meeting the educational obligation to a multicultural community. The Social Justice Studies-Chicanx Studies Program examines the past and present experiences of Chicanx and others of Latin American decent. The Social Justice Studies-Chicanx Studies Program courses are designed to prepare students to serve the Chicanx/Latinx community, to become aware of the culture and heritage and to develop a critical assessment of the social, political and economic experience of this community. The interdisciplinary nature of our Social Justice Studies-Chicanx Studies Program prepares students for transfer to four-year universities that offer upper-division majors in this area.
