The Social Justice-Asian American Studies Program is an academic program composed of courses that critically explore, through interdisciplinary means, the past and present experiences of Asian American minority groups in the United States. Courses in Asian American Studies familiarize students with the historical, socioeconomic, and cultural conditions experienced by peoples from Asia in the United States. The program seeks to provide a foundation for self-understanding among Asian and Pacific Islander Americans, and an understanding of US society in light of the Asian American experience. - Completion of at least 18 units in the major with a grade of “C” or better. A “P” (Pass) grade is also an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis.

- Certified completion of the CSU General Education-Breadth (CSU GE-Breadth) requirements, or completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) for CSU requirements.

 

Please Note: No more than 60-semester units are required for this degree and no additional requirements will be imposed by Evergreen Valley College.

The curriculum is grounded in the principles of social justice and self-determination of oppressed communities. This program centralizes the knowledge, epistemologies and critical thinking produced by racially and sexually oppressed subjects, and we endeavor to examine the entangled intersectionality of racialized sexuality, gender, and class in complex socio-historical processes.  African American Studies students have followed many career paths that include:  Education, Law, Social Work, Immigrant Rights, Administration of Justice, Civil Rights, Politics, Government, Community and Housing Development, Community Organizing and more.

The Associate in Arts in Economics for Transfer (AA-T) degree will prepare students with the strong foundation necessary for pursuing studies at the university level in various careers in the fields of banking, inventory management, academia and government service.  Career options include economist in the private or public sector, financial analyst, controller, treasurer, marketing manager, production control specialist, inventory control manager and business analyst.   The AA-T in Economics is intended for students who plan to complete a baccalaureate degree in Economics or a related field of study at California State University (CSU). Students who complete this degree are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major. Students transferring to a CSU campus that accepts the AA-T in Economics will be required to complete no more than 60 semester units after transfer to earn a baccalaureate degree.

The certificate includes a lecture class as well as various genres and levels of dance techniques. Students will learn both the Beginning and Intermediate skills of Modern, Jazz and Social (Ballroom) dance techniques. Focus will be on foundation, form, alignment, flexibility, technique, body awareness, phrasing, musicality, loco-motor patterns of movement, choreography and performance in each of the styles. Students will also learn about the background and history of Dance by taking Dance Appreciation. This Certificate will enhance the student's knowledge in history while simultaneously giving practical experience and guidance to the dancer. The Dance Certificate of Achievement course of study recommends a basic level or foundation of modern and jazz dance techniques prior to enrolling in the program. The Certificate of Achievement in Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) is a program that provides students with the option of fulfilling all lower division general education requirements for transferring to the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems.  

 

Students who intend to transfer must meet all current IGETC lower division general education transfer requirements including minimum GPA to achieve the Certificate of Achievement. Students may also request certification of general education upon completion of this Certificate of Achievement.   The Certificate of Achievement will appear on the student’s transcripts, but the certification is a separate request that must be filled out by a counselor and is the student’s responsibility to submit to their transfer institution. Students are firmly advised to meet with a counselor to discuss transfer requirements and lower division major preparation that is needed for their intended transfer university.

 

Although the certificate recognizes the completion of IGETC lower division general education requirements, it does not guarantee admission to a specific campus within the CSU or UC system nor does it guarantee admission to a specific major.  Some majors and colleges may require a different lower division preparation and/or a higher GPA than is necessary for this certificate.   A grade of “C” or better is required in all courses.
